The lower 100 miles of the Deschutes River is the most famous blue ribbon wild trout and steelhead stream in the Pacific Northwest. Starting in late April you can float the river canyons flyfishing for native redside rainbow trout that average 13" to 18" with fish to 21" not uncommon. In late may through June you can enjoy the annual salmon fly hatch when the redsides explode on the big salmon flies falling on the surface of the river from the over hanging trees. Through out the summer and fall excellent nymph and dry fly fishing is provided by the many hatches of caddis, mayflies and midges.The Deschutes River has special regulations in effect, All fishing is done while wading. Fishing from a boat is not allowed.We use McKenzie style drift boats and Maravia self bailing rafts for transportation down the river. They hold a lot of gear and give great access to all parts of the river. We offer 1 to 3 day trips on the Deschutes River fishing for these fine wild Redsides.
STEELHEAD
Summer Run Steelhead enter the Deschutes River from the Columbia River in July.These superb fighting fish average from 5lb. to 12lb. and are a mixture of Native and Hatchery fish. Early morning and late evening these fish will aggressively move to the fly. During the midday heat sink tip lines and nymphing is used to target these fish. We offer 2 to 3 day trips on the lower section of the Deschutes River from July through September. The Steelhead reach the upper sections of the River by mid September. We offer 1 day and overnight trips for Steelhead through October and day trips until the end of the Steelhead season on December 31st.
The Crooked River is a classic tail-water fishery located about an hour's drive from Bend. This river is open all year for fly-fishing. The best time to start fishing the Crooked River is in early spring continuing through late fall. The Crooked River offers great dry fly and nymph fishing for hard fighting rainbows. This is a great river to learn the basic essentials of fly fishing, Proper Equipment, Tying Knots, Basic Casting, How to Read a Trout Stream, Selection of the right Flies and Proper Playing, Landing and Releasing of Fish. The Crooked is a hike in stream with easy access and we have two different walk-in trips full Day (9 hours) and a half Day (5 hours). Lunch will be provided on the full Day trips
